It’s easy in maintenance when it comes to hygiene than the conventional type, as food gets stuck in between each bracket leading to poor maintenance and hygiene, but this is not with the clear aligners as they can be removed by the patient while eating. This is a boon to patients who are extremely conscious about wearing the regular visible metal or ceramic braces.
How does it work?
These invisible braces are a set of trays which are a series of clear, comfortable, removable aligners, which are customized to your mouth and jaw sizes. The treatment is planned based on 3-D mapping using 3D oral scan and study model impression and clinical records taken by the dentist. The virtual animation is created using CAD CAM planning software and stimulation done for each phases and stages of treatment. Once the patient and the doctor decide and accept the treatment plan, the records are approved for aligner fabrication.
The series of aligners are shipped to the patient and the dentist provides the instructions as to when and how long each set of aligners should be worn, how to maintain and when to plan review appointments. The duration of the treatment depends on the stimulation produced sets based on the complexity of the malocclusion. Usually every 2-3 weeks, the patient has to change to the next set of aligners, regular review of checkups with the orthodontist is also necessary to keep a track on the progress of the treatment.
Once the desired result has been achieved the patient can wear the last set of aligners passively as retainers for about 6 months or they can visit the orthodontist for fixed retainer. Finally, Desired smile without having undergone the ‘braces’ look is achieved !
